The Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council has welcomed the Domtar Corp. to the Headwaters Conservation Partnership (HCP).

According to Headwaters Executive Director Dale Fox, Domtar is one of the most important industries in Elk County. The company and its employees have an impressive record of partnership for local conservation efforts and they came through in a big way, setting a great example for all industries in Elk County.

“It is important to remember that small businesses and individuals can also play an important part. By leveraging our resources, we can make things happen that were previously impossible,” said Fox.

Elk County Commissioner June Sorg added, “I would like to thank Domtar for their commitment to the county. This new money will help the conservation district fund projects to improve our area.”

Domtar has chosen to dedicate their $5,000 donation toward conservation efforts in Elk County.

Andy Redmond, Domtar’s Environmental, Health and Safety Manager said: “The Johnsonburg Mill has been using our waste residuals to improve poor soils and treat acid mine drainage issues for nearly 20 years.

“The partnership with Headwaters RC&D allows us to become involved and support conservation projects with these same objectives in Elk County. We are pleased to partner with them and look forward to a productive relationship.”

The Domtar Corp. designs, manufacturers, markets and distributes a wide variety of fiber-based products including pulp, communication, specialty and packaging papers and adult incontinence products. The foundation of their business is a network of world-class wood fiber converting assets that produce papergrade, fluff and specialty pulp. The majority of their pulp production is consumed internally.

Domtar is the largest integrated marketer of uncoated free sheet paper and the third largest market pulp producer in North America. Approximately 9,100 people are employed across North America including 385 in Johnsonburg, as well as in parts of Europe and China.

The Headwaters Conservation Partnership invites all corporations, small businesses and individuals active in the Headwaters region of Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties. See www.headwaterspa.org for more information
