CAUW Holds Report Luncheon

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way held its third report luncheon yesterday at the St. Charles Café in Clearfield.

CAUW volunteers announced $21,720.50 in new pledges for the 2013 Community Campaign. The United Way helps 25 local member agencies in eastern, southern and central Clearfield County. To date, the campaign stands at 85 percent, or $209,199, of the $245,000 annual goal.

Nancy Pinto, CAUW chief professional officer, also announced that student change drives were scheduled for this week. She said Clearfield Pharmacy will be holding a “Shop Around” on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The store will donate 10 percent of the day’s receipts from sales as well as from the new “Christmas Room,” as a special extra gift to the CAUW. Its pharmacy sales are excluded.

“We cannot thank them enough for coming to the United Way and asking how they could make an additional difference,” said Campaign Chairperson Ranea Brewer.

“With the many state and federal cuts to our member agencies, the United Way needs your help more than ever to make up for the decreases,” explained Campaign Vice Chairperson Michele Fannin.

“”With the year’s end just around the corner, we encourage anyone and everyone, living in the area, or who is from the Clearfield County region, to make a tax-deductible donation.”

The donations can be made to: Clearfield Area United Way, 18 N. Second St., P.O. Box 1430, Clearfield, PA 16830.

Pinto said interested persons can also print off a re-useable Familywize Prescription Card from the CAUW Web site. She said it helps people without coverage.

She also announced a drive to collect items for Hurricane Sandy Relief. She distributed an email from Clearfield resident Christy Fulton, who has coordinated a group of volunteers to gather items and accept donations at the Ag Building at the Clearfield Driving Park.

She said the drive is ongoing each day this week from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.  She said a truck will deliver collected items to Staten Island, NY residents this weekend.
