DUBOIS – PennDOT is alerting DuBois area drivers that work is continuing on its improvement job along Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive near the DuBois Mall.
The mall end of Beaver Drive is closed today and may also be closed tomorrow. Crews are working on drainage improvements at that end of Beaver Drive. Businesses on Beaver Drive will be accessible but drivers will not be able to travel through the Shaffer Road intersection from Beaver Drive.
Intermittent closures on Beaver Drive may take place through mid-November and PennDOT reminds drivers to obey closure and detour signs when they display “Road Closed” signs for Beaver Drive. Drivers will need to use Division Street and Route 255 to get to the DuBois Mall area. Drivers should expect delays as they make their way through the surrounding area.
The project goal is to ease congestion and make travel through the area smoother and more efficient. Remaining work includes drainage improvements, paving, roadway markings and miscellaneous items.
Overall work on the project has included roadway widening on Shaffer Road and Beaver Drive, addition of turn lanes for the Shaffer Road/Beaver Drive intersection and a latex deck overlay for the Sandy Lick Creek Bridge on Shaffer Road. PennDOT expects to complete roadway work late this year.
Signal upgrade work will take place in spring 2013. The contractor on this $1.2 million project is Francis J. Palo Construction Co. of Clarion. All work is weather dependent.
PennDOT reminds drivers to proceed with caution through all work zones, follow detour signs and always buckle up.
