UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Two members of the Penn State women’s volleyball team (23-2, 13-1 Big Ten) picked up Big Ten weekly awards, conference officials announced Monday. Junior Ariel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) was named Big Ten Player of the week, while sophomore Micha Hancock (Edmond, Okla.) was named Co-Setter of the Week with Michigan’s Lexi Dannemiller.
This is the first honor of Scott’s career and the fifth Setter of the Week honor for Hancock. Hancock was also named Big Ten Player of the Week earlier this season. The two awards brings Penn State’s total for the season to nine.
Scott and Hancock guided the Nittany Lions to two conference wins, including a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21) win against No. 10 Minnesota on Nov. 2 and a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) victory against Wisconsin on Nov. 4. Scott averaged 4.9 kills on .388 hitting over two matches, while Hancock averaged 12.29 assists, 1.29 aces and 3.71 digs per set.
Against Minnesota, Scott posted a match-high 20 kills on .326 hitting. She also tallied five digs and one block against the Gophers. On Sunday against the Badgers, Scott had a team-leading 14 kills with a .357 hitting percentage. Hancock recorded two double-doubles, posting 46 assists and 15 digs against Minnesota and 40 assists and 11 digs versus the Badgers. She paced the Nittany Lions to a .306 hitting percentage against Wisconsin, as well.
Penn State is back in action on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. against Illinois at home in Rec Hall. The match will air live on the Big Ten Network. The Nittany Lions remain at home to face Northwestern on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
