Allan L. Martin, 83, of Clearfield died Oct. 30, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. He was born Oct. 8, 1929 in Zelienople, the son of George R. ”Red” and Louise (Spielman) Martin.
Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a lieutenant and was commissioned by President Eisenhower. He is a graduate and alumni of the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in civil engineering and surveying.
In 1956, he joined Clearfield Borough as its engineer and retired in 1993. He continued on to serve as a consultant PE for the borough.
In 1982, he was recognized as executive of the year. Among his accomplishments, he designed the original sewer system for the borough. He was a borough administrator and served as a past council president.
He was active in scouting and received the scouting highest award, the Silver Beaver.
He was quite active in the church all of his life and became an ordained minister with the Apostolic Believers. One of his favorite scriptures, which were noted on the front of his Bible, was Isaiah 26:3-4.
He’s survived by his wife, Hope A. (Snyder) Martin, whom he married Aug. 5, 1994; six children, Sherrill Leigey and her husband, Richard; Richard Martin and his wife, Kathy; John Martin and his wife, Winnie; Anna Martin; Donald Martin and his fiancé, Janice Young; and Thomas Martin and his wife, Tina.
Also surviving are five step-children, Jim Albright and his wife, Debbie; Robin Cushion and her husband, Jim; Faith Wilcox and her husband, Lewis; Tim Albright; David and his wife, Yan Price; 22 grandchildren, Rick, Heather, Jeff, Mark, John Jr., Angela, Melissa, Matthew, Stephanie, Thomas Jr., Tanis, Ciera, Lyndsey, Travis, Katelynn, Nicholas, George, Lydia, Christopher and Brandon, 18 great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, his in-laws, Michael Snyder, Linda Snyder and Janet, Priscilla and her husband, Peter Fias and Dennis Snyder.
He’s also survived by his beloved pets, Lucas and Suzette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marguerite (Stark) Martin; a brother, Donald G. Martin; two granddaughters an infant, Winnie Martin and Michelle Leigey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Church of the Nazarene, 401 Ogden Ave., Clearfield.
