Man Waives Hearing for Choking Incident

CLEARFIELD – A 50-year-old Clearfield man who has been accused of choking another man waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.

Scotty Lee McLaughlin, 50, of Clearfield has been charged with simple assault and harassment. His bail has been set at $50,000 monetary, according to court documents.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Clearfield-based state police responded to the Edgewood Apartments. The victim told state police that he used a wheel chair because he’s disabled. He said McLaughlin had been consuming alcohol all night and yelling at him for contacting police earlier that day.

The victim told McLaughlin that he would contact the police again if his behavior didn’t stop. At that point, he said McLaughlin kicked in his bedroom door and grabbed his amputated leg. He said McLaughlin then grabbed his neck and started choking him until he went unconscious.

State police observed red marks around the area of the victim’s neck. When state police arrived, McLaughlin was passed out in his bedroom and highly intoxicated.
