Ethel (Traux) Cardinal, 93, of Brisbin died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. She was born July 31, 1919, a daughter of the late Wilmore and Maude (Martin) Truax.
On Dec. 24, 1941 in Brisbin, the Rev. Edward Degville presided over the marriage of Ethel Truax and Charles Cardinal.
She was a 1937 graduate of the Houtzdale High School, a homemaker and a member of the Brisbin Baptist Church, where she was a custodian for many years. She worked at the former Cigar Plant in Philipsburg, offered housekeeping to many area families and babysitting for the neighborhood children. She loved cooking, reading, crocheting and gardening.
She is survived by a son, Richard and his wife, Shirley (Kitko) of Houtzdale; a brother, Lloyd (Imogene) Truax of Bemus, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Louise Cardinal Lobb of Brisbin and Josephine Truax Stiles of Houtzdale; her aunts Nora (Martin) Damakutis of Ohio and Christine Martin of Russell.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brenda Flango (Tom) of Ramey, Julie Jones (John) of Fort Collins, CO and Karen Leveille (Jason) of Colorado Springs, CO; five great-grandchildren, Darynn Flango (Alison), Miranda Flango, Samantha Jones and Joseph and Adelaide Leveille; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles on Feb. 25, 2002; an infant son, Kenneth; a son, Charles Edward; sisters, Virginia Truax and Arveda Archer Lobb; and a brother, Glenn Truax.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brisbin Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Melhorn officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
