Robert A. ‘Abe’ Carella, 84, of Clearfield died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Sept. 8, 1928, a son of the late Lorenzo and Silvia (Cipriani) Carella.
Mr. Carella retired in 1989 as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years of employment. Prior to that, he worked for Goss Welding, Patterson Fire Brick Co. and at various construction sites.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Carella served during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. He was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 as well as a former member of the Sons of Italy, Clearfield, the Letter Carrier Association, the U.S. Navy Reserves and the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. (Stevens) Carella, whom he wed Jan. 26, 1957 in Clearfield; four children, Denise Kitko of Clearfield, Lisa Cruz of Brockway, Carla Carella of Indianapolis, IN and Lorenzo Carella and his wife, Tracy of Grampian.
Also surviving are five grandchildren who he dearly loved, Autumn Bloom and her husband, Mitch of Clearfield, Enrique Cruz of Brockway, Joshua Shugarts of Syracuse, NY, Bianca Carella of Clearfield and Jessica Philips of Penfield; a great-granddaughter who was the apple of his eye and light of his life, Isabelle Bloom; a sister, Ludovica Accordino of Clearfield; and a nephew, Nicholas Accordino and his wife, Tracy of State College.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Clearfield Pre-School Center, 119 N. Second St., Clearfield.
