Vehicle Abandoned after Single-vehicle Accident in Jay Township

JAY TOWNSHIP – No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident at 4 a.m. Friday on Mount Zion Road in Jay Township, according to the Ridgway-based state police.

David Aul, 19, of St. Marys was traveling northbound on Rock Hill Road and approached its intersection with Mount Zion Road. He failed to stop and attempted a left-hand turn onto Mount Zion Road at a high rate of speed.

Aul subsequently lost control of his vehicle on the dirt/gravel roadway. He rotated clockwise on the roadway, while he attempted to regain control of his vehicle.  The Aul vehicle impacted an embankment along Mount Zion Road with its rear, causing it to overturn onto its driver’s side.

Aul and his passenger, Timothy Simbeck, 25, of St. Marys turned the Aul vehicle back into the upright position. Then, both abandoned the vehicle on the roadway.

Neither Aul nor Simbeck was injured in the accident. In addition, neither Aul nor Simbeck was wearing a seatbelt. Aul was cited for the accident.
