Senior linebacker Hodges wins ‘Ironman of the Game’ nod

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State senior linebacker Gerald Hodges (Paulsboro, NJ.) was this week’s pick as the Iron Workers Local Union No 3. "Ironman of the Game" for his performance this past Saturday against Northwestern. Hodges received the most fan votes of the four nominees this week, earning himself this honorable title.

Hodges played the best game of his season with an 11-tackle performance. Hodges not only added 1.5 tackles for loss, but also two pass break-ups and a forced fumble on Northwestern’s final drive to seal the win for the Nittany Lions. The senior linebacker was all over the field on Saturday, helping limit the Wildcats to just 247 total yards, which is more than 200 yards shy of their season average this year. Hodges also was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after his performance. This was the third time in his career to earn the title of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

This year’s "Ironman of the Game" winners have included Allen Robinson (Southfield, Mich.) for the Ohio game, Michael Mauti (Mandeville, La.) for the Virginia and Illinois games, Michael Zordich (Youngstown, Ohio) for the Navy game, and Matt McGloin (Scranton, Pa.) for the Temple game.
