Catanzariti named College Hockey America’s Rookie of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State freshman forward Micayla Catanzariti (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was named College Hockey America’s Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Catanzariti lead the Nittany Lions to a win in their inaugural opener on Saturday with two goals and an assist at Vermont.

Catanzariti played a pivotal role in Penn State’s (1-1-0) historic 5-3 win over Vermont. She scored the game-tying and the go-ahead goal on Saturday, while assisting the final goal by Birdie Shaw (Troy, Mich.). Catanzariti became the first Nittany Lion to tally a multi-goal game and had three points in the victory.

Fellow forward Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) was named to the CHA’s honorable mention list for the week after her two-goal performance against Vermont on Saturday, which included the eventual game-winning tally. She was named the No. 2 star in Saturday’s win and the No. 3 star in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Catamounts.

Penn State returns to action on Saturday for a 7 p.m. face-off against Syracuse at Greenberg Ice Pavilion. Admission to all home games is free and the first 500 fans will receive commemorative Inaugural Home Opener game tickets. The Syracuse game will also serve as the teams’ CHA openers.
