Robert L. Canan, 86, of DuBois died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at his home.
Born May 25, 1926 in Washington, he was the son of the late David and Margaret (Lawrence) Canan.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as a Seaman Second Class in the U.S. Navy.
On June 29, 1975, he married Rita M. (Miles) Canan. She survives.
He was a home improvement contractor for many years.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, Pittsburgh Steelers football, woodworking and gardening. He attended Smithtown Community Church.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Mark Wilson and his wife, Missy of DuBois and Kent Wilson of Talequah, OK; four sisters, Evelyn Wood and Delores Haynens, both of Washington; Emma Jean Lowery of Houston; and Peggy Lou Adamiak of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren, Megan Harmon and Macy McFadden.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David Lee Canan.
There will be no public visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Smithtown Community church with Pastor Harold Hills officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
