The Clearfield Revitalization Corp., (CRC) accepted a Townie Award at the statewide annual Pennsylvania Downtown Center Conference Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Nittany Lion Inn. The CRC received the Townie Award for Program-wide Facade Restoration.
The CRC’s Main Street Manager Kellie Truman accepted the award on behalf of the CRC.
“This award belongs to the Design Committee and all their hard work over the past few years,” she said. Truman thanked committee chairwoman Katie Miknis, who has led the committee since it was first developed, along with Karen Miller, Keely Casteel, Steven Albert, Ian Aughinbaugh and Peggy Durant.
“These volunteers had already done the homework and created the facade guidelines. They had the plan finalized on their own. I was completely impressed by their passion and creative eye to specific buildings,” said Truman.
“Clearfield is unique that the downtown buildings have beautiful masonry details and no two buildings are the same. When the guidelines were created, they were intended so the CRC could work individually with each property owner to customize each project. Because of this approach, the Design Committee maximized the opportunity in each project.”
The CRC’s Facade Improvement Program has distributed 36 grants since 2010, and the return on investment of those projects had a 2.7:1 ratio per state Department of Community and Economic Development dollar. This means larger, more impact projects were made in Clearfield, as this is one of the highest ratios for Main Street Programs in the state.
“This is an amazing accomplishment. I am so proud of the CRC and our design committee volunteers,” said Miknis.
CRC President Dr. Keely Casteel joined Truman at the event. Casteel congratulated the entire design subcommittee led by Miknis and Truman. She said the CRC is thankful for the hard work of all its volunteers, businesses and the community for supporting and becoming involved in the revitalization of downtown Clearfield.
“The CRC is hopeful we can continue working together to move our small town forward,” said Casteel.
