Free Health Fair Planned in Houtzdale

HOUTZDALE – The public is invited to attend the sixth annual Abundant Life Health Fair that is being held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Houtzdale Fire Hall, 601 Good St., Houtzdale.

Faith United Lutheran Church, Houtzdale/Nittany Home Health and Clearfield Hospital are co-sponsors of the free event. This year’s focus is on diabetes. There will be healthy snacks and information about the disease available. Door prizes will be awarded.

Local health and community organizations will be on hand with health information and screenings for all ages. A flu shot clinic for those 18 years and older sponsored by Houtzdale/Nittany Home Health will be held at the health fair. Cost for the shot is $20; those who have Medicare are asked to bring their card. The shot covers seasonal flu and H1N1. 

Participants include Houtzdale/Nittany Home Health/blood pressure screenings, Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield Hospital Hospice, Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Children’s Aid Society, Hope is Alive Cancer Support Group/Kathy Wolford Animal Sanctuary, Faith United Lutheran Church, Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministry, Healthy Beginnings, Ridgeview Elder Care, Marion Manor, Clear-Care Corp., Comfort Keepers, Help Mates, Houtzdale/Ramey emergency medical  services, Skills of Philipsburg, Best Insurance, Moshannon Valley Eye Care, Strong Women, Neighborhood Watch, Lions Club, Columbia Ancillary, Clearfield Hospital Dietary, The Meadows/UCBH, Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging/Link and State Farm Insurance.

The Pennsylvania State Police will present a class from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Child Rear Seat Safety Law.

Non-perishable food items that are not expired will be accepted for donation to the local food bank.
