Frank J. Brumbaugh, 86, of Philipsburg died Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, State College. Born June 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Violet (Johnston) Brumbaugh.
Mr. Brumbaugh was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry for many years. He was the last active church member to serve in the military during World War II.
While living in Delaware, he was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Milford. He was the church superintendent there for many years.
Mr. Brumbaugh was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II in the Fifth Infantry Division of General George Patton’s Third Army. He was very proud for earning the combat infantry badge, which signifies actual combat against the enemy.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #1173 and the American Legion John Ashley Dennis Post #437, both of Philipsburg.
Mr. Brumbaugh had been employed as an x-ray technician for 18 years at the Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, DE. He also worked as a quality assurance supervisor for 22 years at the L.D. Caulk Dental Company in Milford, DE.
He was a 1944 graduate of the Philipsburg High School and attended the Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia, where he earned a diploma in x-ray and medical technology.
He wed the former Evelyn Dorman on Sept. 19, 1954. She preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by Frank D. Brumbaugh.
Mr. Brumbaugh is survived by a son, Boyd A. Brumbaugh of Boalsburg, a brother, Donald L. Brumbaugh of Tucson, AZ and cousins, William I. Slee and his wife, Mary of Santa Ana, CA and Thomas L. Johnston and his wife, Julie Jo of Philipsburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard at the funeral home.
