‘Faces of Penn State’ Campaign off to a Strong Start

UNIVERSITY PARK –  The University’s Faces of Penn State campaign launched earlier this month, showcasing the personal accomplishments, public contributions and pioneering spirit resulting from the Penn State experience.

Since the campaign’s debut on Sept. 6, an inaugural group of remarkable Penn State students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of the State College community have been featured on the Faces of Penn State website, which includes the opportunity to nominate individuals who embody the University’s values of teaching, research and service; are recognizable members of our campus communities; or have achieved significant personal or professional achievements.

A few of these inspiring Faces include:

Richard Alley: a beloved University Park professor and geologist who was part of a Nobel Prize-winning team has been known to impersonate Johnny Cash. Alley has appeared on NPR and PBS to discuss climate change, and ventured to Greenland and west Antarctica to study ice cores.

Celiena Bady: a dedicated advocate for change in the State College community. A senior international politics major, Bady serves as Penn State president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), organizing campus discussions and events.

Linda Collins: University Park professor and researcher dedicated to addressing the prevention of drug abuse, obesity, HIV and mental health problems. Her work has been praised by researchers and social scientists around the globe.

Michelle Kline: a professor and passionate supporter of World Campus, who fosters online communities among students at and outside Penn State’s campuses.

Dani Lichliter: a Penn State senior committed to serving others. She is involved with an impressive variety of student organizations on University Park’s campus and even created her own major, paving a path to continue giving back to the community after graduation.

Daehee Park: a passionate entrepreneur, this recent Penn State graduate already owns three technology companies and continues to find time to volunteer with the Information Sciences & Technology program.

Faces will continue be unveiled throughout the 2012-2013 academic year on the Faces of Penn State campaign website, on Penn State’s campuses and in the community. To learn more about the campaign and submit a nomination, visit faces.psu.edu.
