Elizabeth Mae Rusnak, 66, of Hawk Run died Tuesday at her residence surrounded by family. Born July 14, 1946 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Gaedon and Myrtle (LeConney) Surge.
Mrs. Rusnak had volunteered at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. She was a loving and caring foster parent for more than 40 children during her life. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to being a mother and homemaker, she had worked at Safe Harbor Power Corp., Lancaster for 20 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Rusnak was a 1964 graduate of the West Catholic High School, Philadelphia, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Penn State. She also studied music and other subjects at various universities.
She married Martin Lewis “Marty” Rusnak Jr. on Nov. 11, 1997 in Lancaster and who survives her at home. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Esposito.
She’s survived by four sons and one daughter, Michael Carey and his wife, Sandy of New Jersey, Stephen Carey and his wife, Amanda of Kentucky, Bruce Gladfelter and his wife, Sherry of North Carolina and Martin R. “Marty” Rusnak and his wife, Minda and Lisa Lowrie, all of Lancaster and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will not be any public visitation.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Clearfield Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield, PA 16830.
