The Penn State Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program, Jefferson County, is now accepting applications for classes beginning in October.
This program consists of a volunteer training course designed to provide experienced home gardeners with the information and skills necessary to share their experience and knowledge with others and to promote horticultural and environmental stewardship.
There is a program fee of $125 to cover the cost of the training manual and other materials. People can attend single classes for $20 each with pre-registration.
The classes are three hours long and offered Tuesday afternoon in Brookville and Thursday evening in DuBois. Classes begin the first week of October.
The week of Oct. 9 the subject will be botany, covering plant nomenclature, plant growth and development and environmental factors that affect plant growth. The week of Oct. 16 will be plant propagation.
Anyone interested in either or both of these subjects is encouraged to attend. The $20 class fee only includes materials for that class and does not include the Master Gardener manual or program certification.
