I-80 Traffic Pattern Changes Start Friday near Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE –With Interstate 80 bridge preservation work continuing, PennDOT advises drivers of traffic pattern changes starting on Friday near the Bellefonte/161 interchange.

On Friday, the eastbound travel lane will be closed and traffic will move to the left/passing lane in two different work zones between mile-markers 160 and 167. Also, the westbound travel lane will be closed and traffic will move to the left/passing lane between mile-markers 161 and 159. These lane restrictions will continue through late November.

As work continues on the I-80 bridges that span Route 26, drivers may encounter delays on Route 26 during daylight hours. Work will also continue on the bridges spanning Route 1010, Hubler Ridge Road, and Township Road 476, Sand Ridge Road. An alternating traffic pattern controlled by flaggers will be in place on both roads during daylight hours.

Drivers heading to this weekend’s Penn State home football game should be alert for slowed or stopped traffic between mile-marker 173 at Lamar in Clinton County and mile-marker 161 at Bellefonte in Centre County. Traffic may back up at the Bellefonte/161 westbound off ramp. Pennsylvania State Police will direct traffic at the off-ramp to improve the traffic flow.

As an alternate route, drivers may wish to exit I-80 at the 173/Lamar interchange and follow Route 64 toward State College. Message boards will be in place alerting drivers of delays and alternate routes.
