MVCEF Receives 501(c)3 Status

The Moshannon Valley Community Education Foundation has announced its receipt of the 501(c)3 charitable status.

The MVCEF is now classified as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions made to the foundation are tax deductible. The foundation is now qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts.

During their first reorganizational meeting, the board of directors elected the following: Debora A. Kruise, president; Doris Souder, vice president; Laura Mihalko, secretary; and Elsie Harchak, treasurer.

The board welcomed Jennifer Marie Charney as the new alumni association chairperson. Charney is a 2002 graduate of the Moshannon Valley Junior-Senior High School and a 2007 graduate of Lock Haven University.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communication Media. She joined Penn State University, State College, in 2008. Charney is currently employed by the College of Arts and Architecture, supporting the fundraising efforts of the office.

The Board thanked Caryn Southern, interim alumni association chairperson, for her dedication and that of her committee in acquiring information and providing a great starting point for Charney.

The board decided to change the name of the “Moshannon Valley Alumni Wall” to the “Moshannon Valley Honor Wall.” This will allow community members who may not be graduates of the Moshannon Valley Junior-Senior High School; of the Houtzdale, Woodward, Brisbin or Madera high schools; or of the Moshannon Joint High School but who were connected to the school district as employees or supporters to be included.

The board also decided bricks may be purchased by families and couples and maiden and or married names will be accepted as well as the term “In Memory Of.”  Bricks are being sold for $50 for three lines and up to 16 characters per line. Order forms are located in the main offices of the elementary and high school.

The Knights Victory Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Muddy Run Raceway, Smoke Run.  To register for the 5K Race/Walk with 10 obstacles, interested parties may go to the foundation web site, www.mvcef.org  or www.knightsvictoryrace.com.

Walkers are welcome to participate in this event.  If a walker does not wish to complete the obstacles, they can bypass them as well as the ponds and mud.
