Brockway Woman Sustains Moderate Injuries in Two-vehicle Accident

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – One person was moderately injured after a two-vehicle accident at 4:10 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 219 in Washington Township, the DuBois-based state police reported.

Janet L. Liggitt, 61, of Brockway sustained moderate injuries as a result of the accident. She was transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Both Liggitt and Stanley S. Horton, 52, of Avis were traveling northbound on U.S. Route 219. The Horton vehicle was in the right-hand lane; the Liggitt vehicle was in the left-hand lane.

As the Horton vehicle merged into the left lane, it struck the right, rear wheel and quarter panel of the Liggitt vehicle. After impact, the Liggitt vehicle was propelled forward at which time it began sliding in a counterclockwise motion.

Then, the Liggitt vehicle rotated approximately 180 degrees before entering the median backwards. It struck an embankment while traveling backwards, causing it to overturn one complete revolution. It came to a rest upright and faced southwest. The Horton vehicle came to controlled stop on the right shoulder.

Horton wasn’t injured in the accident. He was wearing his seatbelt. The Liggitt vehicle was towed from the accident scene. Horton will be cited for the accident through the district court.

State police were assisted by the Falls Creek Volunteer Fire Department and DuSan Ambulance.
