Obituary Notice: (Dora)Fae Cardinal

Fae Rowles Cardinal, 88, of Emporium and formerly of Houtzdale died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at the Elk Regional Hospital, St Marys.

Born Sept. 28, 1923 in Sanborn, she was the daughter of Lewis and Elva Mayhue Rowles. On June 18, 1947, Rev. M R Barto presided over her wedding to Llewlyn “Mick” Cardinal of Brisbin, who died May 6, 1992.

Mrs. Cardinal graduated from the Houtzdale High School and soon aided the family by working at Sylvania Electronics in Mill Hall. After her marriage, she worked at General Cigar in Philipsburg before finishing her working career at the Moshannon Valley High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, Ronal, Iman, Cloyd, Thomas and William “Bill” Rowles and one sister, Sylvia Kline.

Surviving are a daughter, Delores (Patrick) Rodgers of Emporium; a son,

Michael (Brenda) Cardinal of Houtzdale; and granddaughters, Diana (Jeff) Young and Deborah (James) Shaginaw, both of Statesville, NC and Patricia Rodgers Fitzsimmons of Bradford

Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brett and Sean Young, James III “Micky,” Nicole and Faith Shaginaw, Lindsey Leet and Bailee Fitzsimmons; sisters-in-laws, Ethel Cardinal of Philipsburg, Eleanor Kephart Rowles of Clearfield, Betty Love Rowles of Houtzdale and Louise Lobb of Brisbin and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cardinal was a member of the Brisbin Church of God for many years and also attended the Church of her youth, the Sanborn Church of God. She assisted the women of the Brisbin Church of God with lunches for funerals and other events until her health prevented her help.

She was also a member of the Sanborn Grange and served as secretary/treasurer for many years.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home, 200 David St., Houtzdale.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brisbin Church of God, with the Rev. Andrew Griffith officiating; burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Brisbin.

Memorials may be made to the Brisbin or Sanborn Church of God, the Sanborn Grange or charity of the donor’s choice.
