Former athletes earn places in Penn State Behrend Hall of Fame

Four former student athletes will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, this fall. The college’s 2003 baseball team also will be honored.

The individual athletes all graduated in 2002:

— Angela Albertson Field, an Erie native, is second all-time in women’s tennis singles victories. She was a three-time all-conference selection in both singles and doubles play and won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference singles title in her senior year.

— Jake Boyle, a Cambridge Springs native, was a two-time AMCC Most Valuable Player. He held career baseball records for batting average, home runs, RBIs, runs scored, hits, triples and walks. He was named to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team and the Dodge Truck All-American Farm Team.

— Erin Phillips DiGello, an Erie native, is the all-time points leader for women’s basketball at Penn State Behrend. She scored 1,582 points in her senior year. DiGello also is the all-time leader in scoring average, field-goal percentage and free throws. She was named Most Valuable player in the AMCC in 2002.

— Tommy Sieg, a Pittsburgh native, played 60 games with the men’s soccer team. His total of 384 saves is the third-best in the program’s history. Sieg was a key factor in the Lions’ 1997 and 1999 AMCC championship wins.

The October 6 induction ceremony also will honor the 2003 baseball team, which finished with a 33-10 record, winning Penn State Behrend’s first AMCC baseball championship. The team also won the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s South Region title.

Two former Penn State Behrend administrators also will be honored at the ceremony, which will be held in McGarvey Commons. John Lilley, provost and dean from 1980 to 2001, doubled the number of Penn State Behrend athletic programs during his tenure. Jack Burke, who served as senior associate provost and senior associate dean before being named chancellor in 2001, was an avid supporter of Penn State Behrend teams and a frequent presence at home games.
