Mason Charles Solomon, 62, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at the Clearfield Hospital. Born Nov. 25, 1949 in Patton, he was the son of Milton and Mary Ann (Zumovitch) Solomon.
Mr. Solomon was a school teacher. He taught fourth grade at the Bradford Township Elementary School for 23 years. He was a head teacher at the school. He then moved to the Clearfield Middle School and taught fifth grade for 19 years until retiring this June.
He was a 1967 graduate of the Clearfield Area High School; he received his Bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and received his Master’s degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He was a disabled U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action.
He was a member of the Saint Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield, a life member of the American Federation of Veterans and a former member of the Clearfield Knights of Columbus Council 409 and of the Clearfield B.P.O.E. Lodge 540.
On Sept. 20, 1969 at Saint Francis Roman Catholic Church, he wed the former Joanne Elizabeth Ettaro, who survives, along with two children, the Rev. Marc J. Solomon of St. Mary of Grace R.C.C. Meadville and Renee C. Billotte and her husband, Keith S. of Clearfield.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Ian and Luke Billotte of Clearfield; a sister and three brothers, Mona Carney and her husband, Lloyd, Myron Solomon and his wife, Gail, his twin, Marvin E. Solomon and his wife, Doris and Manly Solomon and his wife, Julie, all of Delaware.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mead Solomon and a nephew, Brian Carney.
A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, 306 Walnut St., Curwensville, PA 16833 with the Rev. Marc J. Solomon as celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Park Avenue, Clearfield, PA 16830.
There will be no public visitation. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
The family suggests contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St. Clearfield, PA 16830.
