Fall sports get under way at Penn State New Kensington

Men’s and women’s golf, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball open conference play in September.

Golf travels to Allentown for a Penn State University Athletic Conference match at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, against Penn State Lehigh Valley at Brookside Country Club. Coach Bill Woodard’s squad finished fifth in the PSUAC championships a year ago.

Soccer, under new head coach Pat Cavanaugh, is home for its opening league game at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, versus Penn State Mont Alto. Due to renovations to the campus soccer field, this year’s home games will be played at Valley High School in New Kensington. The soccer team reached the semi-finals of the conference tournament in 2011.

Volleyball begins its conference campaign at home with a match at noon, Saturday, Sept. 22, against Penn State DuBois. The New Kensington Lady Lions open the season Aug. 31 with the Tip-Off Tournament at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Coach David McGeary’s team finished 4-8 last year. Campus intercollegiate teams compete in the PSUAC and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Post-season tournaments include PSUAC conference and USCAA national championships.
