CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District continues to pursue litigation against the contractors associated with the construction of the Girard-Goshen Elementary School, according to District Solicitor Aimee Willett.
At Monday night’s board meeting, Willett said the district retained the law firm of Goehring, Rutter & Boehm, which reported finding defects in the construction and design of the school’s roof. She said a writ of summons was issued to 15 professional vendors/contractors associated with their litigation.
Willett said some preliminary objections have already been filed as a result of the district’s effort to be compensated for the alleged improper roof installation at Girard-Goshen. She said the case continues to proceed through the Court of Common Pleas in Clearfield County.
Girard-Goshen was constructed approximately a decade ago and temporarily closed due to structural issues with its roof in October 2010. The district approved Girard-Goshen’s permanent closure in June.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas B. Otto said that in the district-wide feasibility study, the six options estimated it would cost $0.57 million to renovate Girard-Goshen. He said an “extensive study” showed it would cost an additional $1.5 million to repair the building’s roof, bringing renovation costs to $2.07 million, according to a previous GantDaily.com report.
