John “Jack” A. Murray, 91, of DuBois died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at Christ the King Manor. Born Jan. 19, 1921 in Bedford, he was the son of the late John B. and Ida (Gardill) Murray.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
On July 12, 1947, he married Mildred Ann (Rehanek) Murray. She preceded him in death May 24, 2001.
He retired from Western Union after many years of service.
He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Church Choir for many years. He also sang in the DuBois Male Chorus, the Barbershop Chorus and participated in many DuBois United Fund plays and shows.
He was a member of the DuBois Country Club and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17, where he served as past commander and was a member of the Loyal Order of Ruptured Ducks.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Sue Ann) Shaffer of DuBois and one grandson, Sean Tilson of Avon, CO.
He was preceded in death by his son, John “Jack” C. Murray.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the Lakeside United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lakeside United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Zilhaver and Pastor David Nagele officiating.
Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
