Men’s golf unveils 2012-13 schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State men’s golf team released its 2012-13 schedule Wednesday (Aug. 22). The Nittany Lions will host one tournament at the Penn State Golf Courses in the spring.

The Nittany Lions are on the road for five tournaments this fall. The men’s golf team opens the season on Sept. 9-10 at the Gopher Invitational, before heading to the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational in Toledo, Ohio on Sept. 17-18. From there the team travels to Ft. Myers, Fla., to play in the Miromar Lakes Collegiate on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, and visits Johnson City, Tenn., for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 12-14. The Nittany Lions close out fall play on Oct. 22-23 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.

Penn State gets back out on the course on Feb. 8-9 in Bradenton, Fla., for the Big Ten Match Play Championships. The Nittany Lions then take on Michigan State in the Challenge of Champions in Houston, Texas on Feb. 23. After their annual Spring Break trip, the Nittany Lions visit Greensboro, Ga., for the Linger Longer Invitational at the Reynolds Plantation on March 23-24. Penn State closes out the regular season with the Hawkeye Taylor Made Invitational on April 13-14 and hosts the Rutherford Intercollegiate on April 20-21. The Big Ten Championships are set for April 26-28 in French Lick, Ind.

Head coach Greg Nye returns eight players from the 2011-12 season and welcomes the addition of freshmen JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.), Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) and Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.)
