GLEN HOPE – PennDOT recently placed a set of message boards and speed display signs in Glen Hope Borough to raise motorists’ awareness of the traffic pattern in this area.
Two speed display signs were placed along Route 53, Glen Hope Boulevard, near the intersection with Route 729, Tyrone Pike. The signs will remain in place for about three weeks and will register the speeds of vehicles traveling along this 35-mile-per-hour section of Route 53.
The speed display signs use radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.
Two message boards were placed on Route 729 at both the northbound and southbound approaches to Route 53. The signs advise drivers of the stop sign ahead at the Route 53 intersection.
Speeding and failure to stop at stop signs are both classified as aggressive driving behavior. Aggressive driving remains a leading cause of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.
