Marietta Tate Ross, 80, of Curwensville died on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at the Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield.
She was born Sept. 3, 1931 in Bigler, a daughter of the late J. Hamer and Mary (Michaels) Tate. She was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church.
Ms. Ross was affiliated with the local chapter of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). She was very active with the Clearfield County Republican Committee and also was a member of the Republican National Committee.
She served many years on the Pike Township election board and was very involved with the Curwensville Alumni Association.
Ms. Ross graduated from the Curwensville Area High School in 1949 and continued her education by earning a Bachelors degree in chemistry from Wilson College, Chambersburg in 1953.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and was very proud of her father, J. Hamer and uncle, W.D. Tate for being the founders of the Clearfield Cheese Company.
Ms. Ross is survived by two daughters, Janessa Wynn Kostelic and her husband, William S. of Poland, OH and Jayme Ross and her husband, Jerry E. Patterson of Curwensville; four grandchildren, Chelsey C. and Cooper N. Kostelic, AnDrew J. Guelich and his wife, Traci and Taylor Guelich; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. and Thomas G. Tate and two half sisters, Irene Duke and Kathryn Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville, with Gary Jewart officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.
