Child Endangering Case Held for Court

CLEARFIELD – A 34-year-old Woodland woman accused of leaving her two young children at Fun Central and then acting disorderly upon her return had all charges bound over to court after she failed to appear for her preliminary hearing Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.

Bobbie Jo Carper, 34, ofWoodlandhas been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, disorderly conduct and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 3:14 p.m. June 24, police were dispatched to Fun Central for two children, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old who were left unattended. Prior to arriving, police were advised the mother had returned for the children. Upon arrival, police spoke with Manager, Kelli Fenush, who said the mother had left with them.

Carper allegedly arrived with three children at 2:44 p.m. She had a 3-year-old, a 1-year-old and a 6-month-old and entered the jungle gym area of Fun Central. Then, she went to employee Misty Modzel and advised she was leaving her children while she went to Wal-Mart.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the defendant left the building and only had her youngest child. She left the 3-year-old and 1-year-old at Fun Central. During the time she was gone, Modzel received several reports from concerned parents inside the jungle gym area.

The 1-year-old was climbing to the top of the jungle gym and would become afraid or get her leg stuck. Modzel reported it to Fenush that two small children were unsupervised and in the jungle gym area. Fenush went to the area and asked the adults if they were supervising the children.

The adults advised that they didn’t know the children and were concerned for their welfare. At this point, Fenush contactedClearfield911 and reported the children were there and unsupervised. She took both girls to the main area at the advice ofClearfield911.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, at 3:20 p.m. Carper returned to Fun Central and proceeded to yell at Fenush, Modzel and another employee Brooklyn Richards, who were watching the children. The defendant was upset that the children were removed from the jungle gym area. Carper than allegedly gave Richards a shove with her hip before grabbing the 1-year-old by her arm with one hand and dragging her off the counter. She carried her from the building with the 3-year-old walking out behind them.

Carper also has another pending case for endangering the welfare of a minor.
