Sandy Supers Updated on Platt Road Noise Issue

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors provided updates for the Platt Road water pumping debate that heralds a reduction of noise from the water shipments.

Sandy Township Manager Dick Castonguay announced that EOG has received its required soil conservation permits for deeper into the woods.  Work will begin to clear the forest in 25 acre segments starting for the water pumping station. Future clearing could take place pending interest in the development of the industrial park.

EOG told Castonguay that they would be ceasing water shipments for the next 12 to 18 months due to a decline of Marcellus Shale drilling linked to the falling price of natural gas.

There will still be noise related to trucks traveling along Platt Road.

The township will also look into the feasibility of running a sewer line along Platt Road to support the trailer park.  The industrial park would be able to tap into this line, which would allow additional development beyond the expected return of water shipments.

A sound study was in the works of being planned, but Castonguay and Township Supervisor Brady LaBorde felt it was best to move back the study with the new information.

Ruth Dunlap, Platt Road resident, requested that the township look into a way to limit the nighttime truck traffic, since there was an expected year to a year-and-a-half lull in water shipments.
