The Clearfield Revitalization Corp.’s second Fall Festival/Pumpkin Run 5K has been announced for Oct. 13.The Pumpkin Run will be held rain or shine with registration running from 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. The race will officially begin at 8:30 a.m.

The CRC wanted to bring new ideas to its 5K and this year will feature the “Parade of Paws”-Trial Mile. The Parade of Paws is a one-mile route within the 5K route for anyone interested in walking a sheltered dog from the Gateway Humane Society located in Falls Creek.  The Gateway Humane Society is a non-profit organization solely operated by volunteers and donations.

Anyone interested in registering a sheltered dog for race day can complete the form and send it to the CRC office at 125 East Market St., Clearfield, PA 16830. The forms can be accessed at www.clearfieldpumpkinrun.com. Please read all the restrictions before filling out the form.

Each person who registers to walk a sheltered dog will receive a “Parade of Paws” T-shirt sponsored by Action Graphics in Clearfield. There will be a $10 donation fee with half of the proceeds going to the Gateway Humane Society. All registration forms must be received by Sept. 14.

The CRC added the Parade for Paws because each year more than 6 million sheltered animals are dropped off at shelters. During this Trial Mile, it’s the CRC’s hopes that participants will fall in love with their sheltered dog and complete the adoption process. After the race, an adoption event will be held at the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library.

“(We hope) your happy, furry friend will get a second chance at a forever home. However, there isn’t any obligation to adopt a pet. The dogs at the shelter will be overjoyed by just being walked by a new friend for the day,” said Main Street Manager Kellie Truman in a press release for the event.

Because the Gateway Humane Society is privately owned, there will only be 15 to 20 dogs available. This will be a first come, first serve basis and the CRC hopes that they’ll all be walked that day. If they’re all registered and participants still want to help, the Humane Society will be accepting leashes and collars of any size that day.

State Farm Insurance Agent Rob Bozovich will donate a 20-pound bag of dog food for each sheltered dog walked on race day and also a Visa gift card for supplies at the shelter.
