Charges Pending Against Teen for BB Gun Incident

PORT MATILDA – A young boy could face charges for simple assault and reckless endangering after allegedly shooting a young girl with a BB gun during an incident at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday in Port Matilda Borough, the Philipsburg-based state police reported.

Two 14 year olds, a boy and girl, and several teens were in an apartment in the 100 block of South High Street. The boy had obtained a BB gun, which belonged to the tenant of the apartment. He was allegedly recklessly handling the BB gun, state police said.

At one point, the boy allegedly pointed the BB gun at the girl and pulled the trigger. The girl was allegedly shot in the neck. Other teens came to her aid and attempted to stop the bleeding.

State police said an ambulance was summoned and the girl was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment. The girl was later flown to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She has been released and returned home, state police said. Charges are currently pending against the boy.
