Samuel Peter Pontillo, 61, of Melbourne, FL and formerly of Clearfield died Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Viera Hospital in Melbourne, FL.
Born Sept. 22, 1950 in Clearfield, he was the son of Pete and Edith (Yingling) Pontillo. Mr. Pontillo worked as a custodian for the Century United Methodist Church in Melbourne, FL.
Mr. Pontillo was a musician and played drums for various bands in the Clearfield area including The Diego’s, Moore or Less, Fire and Rain, Donna and the Funmakers and JD and the Second Half to name a few.
He was a member of the Pineda Presbyterian Church in Melbourne, FL, where he also played drums for the Praise and Worship Band of the Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two children, Angela Redden and her fiancée, Mike Irvin of Clearfield and Clu Pontillo and his wife, Jaime of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren Dylan and Mikayla Graham, Jazlynn Gesin and Isaac Pontillo.
Also surviving are two sisters, Jackie Gilliland and her husband, Robert of Huntingdon and Helen Robb and her husband, Ronald of Clearfield, numerous nieces and nephews and his former wife, Betty Redden of Curwensville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Franklin Pontillo.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield on Thursday. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
