George C. “Cappy” Hill, 75, of Philipsburg died Thursday at his residence. Born Feb. 6, 1937 in Bigler, he was the son of the late George W. Hill and Audrey E. (Bumbarger) Price and stepfather, Isaac C. “Ike” Price.

Mr. Hill was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg. He was a member and past master of the Moshannon Lodge #0391 Free & Accepted Masons, Philipsburg.

He was a member and past high priest of the Mountain Royal Arch Chapter #189, Altoona; a member and past thrice illustrious master of the Moshannon Council #56 Royal and Select Master Masons; a member and past commander of the Mountain Commandery #10 Knights Templar, Altoona; a member of the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; and a member of the B.P.O. Elks #1173, Philipsburg.

Mr. Hill was employed as the head of the imaging department of the former Philipsburg State General Hospital. He was on the original board of directors and instrumental in the re-opening of the former Philipsburg Area Hospital. He was most recently employed as a labor foreman with the Quehanna Boot Camp, Karthaus, until his retirement in 1999.

He was a 1955 graduate of the Philipsburg High School. In addition, he was a graduate of the Franklin School of Science and Art, Philadelphia.

Mr. Hill married the former Rebecca Lucas on Oct. 28, 1989 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Philipsburg. She survives him at home.

He’s survived by stepdaughters, Robin (Reese) Knepp and her husband, Michael and Rachelle (Reese) Thompson, all of Philipsburg and Rebecca (Reese) Young and her husband, Bryan of Juneau, AK and two sons, Bryan K. Hill and his wife, Vicky of Enola and Scott A. Hill and his wife, Lydia of Elkton, MD.

Also surviving are a sister, Kay C. (Price) Reese of Martinsburg, three grandchildren, Nathan Hill of Enola and Jackson and Seneca Hill of Elkton, MD and four stepgrandchildren, Chatham Tully of Juneau, AK and Taylor, Levi and Carly Thompson of Philipsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Franklin D. Reese.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 East Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Mark Thumma officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be accorded by the Moshannon Lodge #0391, Free & Accepted Masons at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
