Lightening Storm Responsible for Power Outages

The lightning storm that lit up the sky overnight caused widespread power outages that affected Penelec customers across the area.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, about 3,000 customers were affected by the storm.

There were approximately 25 trouble locations across the area spanning from Brookville to Black Moshannon State Park.  Trees brought down power lines in several areas and there were also several broken cross arms and poles.

As of 8:00 a.m. Friday morning, power had been restored to 2,500 Penelec customers with about 500 remaining out.  Crews are working on the remaining outages and expect all customers will be restored today.

Customers can view updated outage numbers and affected customers by municipality from their PC or smart phone at Penelec’s outage  Web site.

To report power outages please call Penelec at 1-888-544-4877 (1-888-LIGHTSS).  It’s the fastest way to begin the restoration process.

Penelec reminds people to stay away from all downed wires as they may be energized and dangerous.
