Jonelle F. Lance, 36, of the Clearfield County Jail has been charged with aggravate assault and harassment. Her bail has been set at $100,000 monetary.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 5:12 p.m. June 17, Officer Julie Wehler of the Lawrence Township Police Department responded to 28 ½ High Street to check the welfare of Lance. Her mother reported the defendant might be locked inside her home with a knife and threatening to harm herself.
Wehler and Officer David Fye of the Clearfield Borough Police Department responded. However, they weren’t able to locate Lance. At approximately 6:07 p.m. the same day, Wehler responded to High Street again and attempted to check Lance’s welfare. She was assisted by borough Officer Joseph Witherite. After arriving approximately 10 minutes later, Wehler made contact with Lance on her lawn. When she asked Lance for her name, the defendant asked who she was looking for.
Wehler indicated she was looking for the defendant at which time Lance replied that wasn’t her. Instead, Lance told police they wanted someone by the name of Michael. At that point, Lance headed toward the 88 High Street residence, advising police that she would get Michael. Police followed her onto the porch of the residence.
The defendant attempted to enter the residence when Wehler placed her hand on Lance’s elbow. Lance pulled away and threw Mountain Dew into Wehler’s face. Lance then ran inside the residence and attempted to hold the door shut. Wehler and Witherite pushed the door open. Witherite then placed the defendant on couch.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Wehler approached Lance, while she was on the couch at which time Lance kicked Wehler in the lower chest area. Then, Fye arrived at the scene and police were able to handcuff Lance. The defendant kicked Fye in the groin/leg area. Witherite sprayed mace on Lance in order for police to control her. She was transported to the CCJ.
Upon arriving at the garage area at CCJ, Wehler opened the patrol car door and Lance exited. She took a few steps toward the jail door and again kicked Wehler, striking her in the leg area. CCJ guards then restrained Lance.
