Obituary Notice: Donald J. Tobias

Donald J. Tobias, 90, of Philipsburg died Wednesday at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born March 29, 1922 at Carnwath, a son of the late Charles B. and Annie (Patterson) Tobias.

Mr. Tobias was a 1939 graduate of the Clearfield Area High School and served in the U.S. Air Force as a bomber pilot during World War II.

He worked as a field engineer for the Unisys Corporation of Detroit, MI for 41 years. He was a life member and past master of Masonic Lodge 47 Plymouth Rock

F&AM, Detroit, MI. In addition, he was a member of Moslem Shriners of Southfield, MI and of the Valley of Detroit Consistory.

Mr. Tobias was a member of Clearfield Chapter of the

Eastern Star and was Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania, Order of the Eastern Star in 1998.  He also was a life member of the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post 6321, Janesville.

On Feb. 12, 1944 in the Madera Presbyterian Church, he married Mary Ellen (McCreadie) Tobias, who preceded him in death April 11, 2006.

He is survived by a son and daughter, Donald J. Tobias and his wife, Brenda of New York, NY and Nancy Hampton and her husband, Derek of Seattle, WA.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Tristian and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Mae Anderson and Thelma G. Richner and a brother, J. Cameron Tobias.

At Mr. Tobias’ request, there will be no public visitation and a public memorial service will be announced at a later date.
