Obituary Notice: James W. Thurston

James W. Thurston , 89 of Curwensville died on June 12, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born on March 21, 1923 in Kerrmoor, a son of the late Orvis and Florence (Palmquist) Thurston.

Mr. Thurston was a hard-working coal miner for the Lady Jane Colleries, formerly of Penfield. He had also driven truck for Clearfield Cheese, Co. He had a special admiration for his military hero, General George Patton and enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dog and little buddy, Toby.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 812, Clearfield for 44 years.

Mr. Thurston served with the Seventh Armored Division of the U. S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Rowles and husband Butch of Olanta, Melanie Mahlon and husband Terry of Grampian and Jamie Thurston and fiance Steve Barrett of Curwensville; two grandsons Terry Michael Mahlon and fiance Missy Herbert and Corey B. Rowles and fiance Suellen Russell; a great grandson Renson Russell Rowles; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thurston was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine M. (Feola) Thurston on Febr. 10, 1995 and whom he wed Sept. 12, 1946 in Ansonville. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Camberg; and four brothers, Charles L. and Donald L. Thurston, and twin infant brothers.

At the request of Mr. Thurston, there will be no public visitation or service.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Bloomington Cemetery Association, in honor of the veterans, 117 Bailor Drive, Olanta, PA 16863..
