Muddy Run Bridge Work to Cause Detours

CLEARFIELD – Work to replace a structurally deficient bridge on state Route 2002 (Hegarty to Smoke Run Road) in Bigler Township will get underway June 11.

The bridge spans Muddy Run in the village of Smoke Run. The current bridge is posted for one truck at a time. Replacing the existing bridge with a new structure will remove the posting and provide area motorists with smoother, safer and more efficient travel across a modern structure.

On June 11, PennDOT will close SR 2002 and a detour will be in effect through early November. The official detour will use SR 2002, SR 453 to Ramey, SRs 453/253 (Main Street/Viola Pike) to Janeville, and SR 729 (Main Street) back to SR 2002. The Glen Hope Bridge on SR 729 will be open prior to the closure of the Muddy Run Bridge.

The Glen Hope Bridge is scheduled to open on June 8.

Overall work on Muddy Run includes bridge replacement, reconstruction of roadway approaches, drainage improvements, and guide rail updates. PennDOT expects all work to be finished by early November.

The Muddy Run Bridge was built in 1938 is 66 feet long, and carries average daily traffic of almost 600 vehicles. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Nestlerode Contracting Co. Inc., of Lock Haven is the contractor on this $800,000 project.
