CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County “Happily Ever After” Relay for Life kicked off at noon on Saturday with the opening ceremony at the Grove Stage at the Clearfield Driving Park.
At 8 a.m. Saturday, The Torch of Hope traveled from the Grampian Post Office to the Driving Park. The official start of the Relay for Life is the opening ceremony which was conducted by Steve Livergood, event chair. During the opening ceremony, Jackie and Rachel Syktich, spoke of their personal battles watching loved ones fight cancer.
The Voices of Hope also spoke during the opening ceremony, and talked about their stories as cancer survivors, and being the caretaker of a child with cancer.
The theme Happily Ever After, encouraged participants to decorate and dress like fairy tale characters. Some of these decorations included Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and many more. At many team’s sites there were snacks, drinks and other things to purchase.
Other events going on during the relay were the Ms. Relay contest, kid’s Minute to Win it, Relay Idol contest, survivor dinner, the Power of Purple Lap and the Luminaria service.
