John Shannon Hamm, 54, of Hepburnia died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1957 in Clearfield, a son of the late James and Sara (Appleton) Hamm.

He was a 1975 graduate of the Curwensville Area High School and received his associate degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University, DuBois Campus in 1977.

He was a carpenter by trade, working with various construction companies. He most recently was employed with Jay Lucas Construction.

He had a love for basketball along with many other hobbies, including hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, woodworking and being an alumnus of Penn State. He was an avid Penn State football fan.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Wood) Hamm, whom he wed Oct. 19, 1985; a daughter, Shannon Bratton and her husband, Gary of New Wilmington; two sisters, Sharon Fales and her husband, David of Apollo Beach, FL and Ferne Kisner and her husband, Tom of Woodland; his mother-in-law, Rosella (Pontefract) Wood of Hepburnia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville with the Rev. Gust J. Maderia Jr. and the Rev. Leslie Bloom co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to UPMC Mercy Inpatient Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, 1400 Locust St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or to the charity of one’s choice.
