BROCKWAY – The Curwensville Area High School softball team ended its regular season schedule on a high note as they defeated Brockway 6-3 on Thursday.  The Lady Tide has now won nine games in a row to post a 14-3 slate while avenging an earlier loss to the Lady Rovers.

The two teams hadn’t met since March 28 when Brockway handed the Tide a 6-2 loss in their second game of the season.  Both teams won on the road in the split.

In Thursday’s meeting, Curwensville grabbed the early lead in the second inning.  Shortstop Cheyenne Pentz opened the gates with a single, and Megan Barrett followed by reaching on an error.  Sarah Wriglesworth and Abby Johnson drove in the first two runs with back-to-back hits.  Hannah Bressler moved runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly to right by Taylor Goodman cashed in to bring Wriglesworth home.  The inning’s second error off the bat of Madi Peterman pushed the score to 4-0.

Brockway tried to get back into the game in the third inning as Gabby Bart singled and Amanda Moyer doubled after one out.  Both runners came home on the second consecutive double by Savannah Brosky to set the score at 4-2.

The rest of the scoring didn’t come until the sixth inning.  In the top of the sixth Goodman reached on an error, moved to second on a wild pitch, was sacrificed to third by Peterman and scored when a pick-off attempt was thrown away.  With two outs in the inning, Demchak doubled, and Pentz, with her fourth hit of the game, singled in pinch-runner Alaina Stiles.

“They didn’t have an answer for Cheyenne,” said Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey.  “It seemed like they were trying to pitch around Molly, and Cheyenne made them pay.”

A double by Brooke Carlson and a single by Hailey Adams in the bottom of the inning capped the scoring for Brockway and ended the count at 6-3.

In the circle, Tierra Shope struck out four Rovers and walked only two as she scattered eight hits in the game.  Brockway tallied 13  hits in the first game between these two teams.

Pentz finished the day 4-for-4 with an RBI; while Johnson collected two hits and one run-batted-in for the winners.

The Golden Tide will now wait to see who their opponent will be in the District IX Playoffs.  The playoffs will begin Monday and brackets will be made public sometime Friday.
