Bicyclist Injured After Striking Automobile

PHILIPSBURG – A 15-year-old bicyclist was taken for treatment after being struck by a Philipsburg woman Thursday afternoon.

According to the state police in Clearfield, Helen R. Shields, 85 of Philipsburg, was making a left turn from state Route 53 to Gertrude Street in Chester Hill Borough. The bicyclist was traveling north on SR 53. Police said Shields did not see the teenager and turned into his path. The teen then hit the passenger side of the car and was thrown from his bike.

Police said he was taken to Altoona Regional Trauma Center by Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services for treatment of moderate injuries. Shields was wearing her seat belt and was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing and summary traffic violations are pending.

Police were assisted at the scene by Moshannon Valley EMS and Chester Hill and Philipsburg Fire Departments.
