Curwensville Man Waives Hearing in Burglary Case

CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man accused of breaking into a skating rink and stealing money waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Nicholas K. Rumsey, 21, waived is charged with burglary, criminal trespass and related charges.

According to court records, police were called to the skate station on March 21 for a report of a burglary that occurred early that morning. Once there, police learned that the suspects entered through the rear door by kicking it in. From there, the two suspects worked their way to the office in front of the building where they removed a cash register.

The affidavit of probable cause states that they then went back to the snack bar area and into the kitchen, then to the game room. Surveillance footage shows the suspects going through the building multiple times, removing a cash register and two bank bags; breaking into a coin machine and taking money; smashing a surveillance camera; and attempt to make off with a computer DVD receiver. They did not take the receiver, however.

The affidavit states that $4,300 in damage and loss was caused to the owners of the building, while $1,100 in damage in loss was caused to the owner of the coin machine.

Police spoke with the owner of the Skate Station, who identified one of the suspects. The owner’s friend also viewed the footage and identified Rumsey as the other suspect.
