Girl Sustains Moderate Injuries after being Struck by Pick-up Truck

BECCARIA TOWNSHIP – A 10-year-old Coalport girl sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the Altoona Regional Hospital after being struck by a pick-up truck at approximately 6:35 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Main and South Hill streets in Beccaria Township, the Clearfield-based state police reported.

According to the accident report, Brian Carl Rydbom, 47, of Coalport was traveling eastbound on Main Street. At that point, the girl was chasing a ball on South Hill Street and into the path of Rydbom’s pick-up truck. Rydbom attempted to swerve to avoid striking the girl, state police said.

However, the Rydbom pick-up truck struck the girl’s left leg, as she attempted to turn away from it. Rydbom stopped approximately 20 feet from the point of impact. He provided medical attention to the girl until Irvona emergency medical services arrived at the scene.

Both Rydbom and his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. Neither he nor the boy sustained injuries; Rydbom’s pick-up truck wasn’t damaged in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
