PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Clearfield boys tennis team faced District 9 foe Punxsutawney on Wednesday and was beaten by the Chucks 6-3.
The top three singles players for Clearfield – Ian Bookhamer, Cory Maines, and Kerry Maines, all won; but the Bisons were swept the rest of the way.
Singles Results:
1. Ian Bookhamer (clfd) beat Mike Blose (p) in 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
2. Cory Maines (clfd) beat Tim Pearce (p) 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9).
3. Kerry Maines (clfd) beat Ed Serafin (p) 6-2, 7-5.
4. Kunal Patel (clfd) lost to Ryan States (p) 1-6, 0-6.
5. Vince Owens (clfd) lost to Nick Roberts (p) 2-6, 1-6.
Doubles Results:
1. Kerry Maines and Ian Bookhamer (clfd) lost in a pro set match to Mike Blose and Tim Pearce (p) 5-8.
2. Cory Maines and Kunal Patel (clfd) lost in a proset match to Ryan States and Nick Roberts (p) 8-9 (4-7). 3. Vince Owens and Gabe Ford (clfd) lost in a proset match to Justin Ray and Ed Serafin (p) 3-8. 4. Anthony Grenus and Connor Renaud (clfd) lost in a proset match to CJ Seitz and Joe Roberts (p) 2-8.
Clearfield will be back in action on Monday May 7 when they travel to DuBois for the District 9 Singles Championships.
The Bisons picked up a victory on Monday when the school board announced that they would fix the courts at the high school, thus ending their status as a three year “road warriors” team.
