Clearfield Borough Police and Allstate have partnered to bring awareness to the serious penalties that can come from texting while driving. As a result of efforts surrounding local Allstate agents’ ban on texting and driving campaign, borough police received a donation of a CellControl anti-texting device to be used with in the department.
“Allstate and the Ogden Legacy Agency are pleased that Pennsylvania has banned texting while driving, and we applaud police efforts to enforce this law,” David Glass, president of the Ogden Legacy Agency said. “Statistics show that texting behind the wheel is almost as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. By ticketing offenders, law enforcement will help keep the roads safer for everyone and allow insurance companies to properly rate the extra risk. If you are caught texting while driving, it can impact your insurance rates.”
In addition to the apparent danger and risks associated with texting and driving, those caught texting from behind the wheel will be given a $50 fine, and after the fees it is a total $136.
“We have zero tolerance while texting and driving,” Neeper said. The Clearfield Borough Police are targeting enforcement and looking for certain traffic violations to indicate that the driver is multitasking. Examples of what the Clearfield Borough Police are looking for are speeding up and slowing down, weaving back and forth and other similar traffic violations, Neeper said.
