LOCK HAVEN – Lack of a clutch hit proved costly for the Clearfield Area High School softball team Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bisons stranded 11 runners and came out on the short end of a 3-1 Mountain League Allegheny Division scrap with host Central Mountain at Peddie Park.
Four hits, eight walks and one hit batsman gave Clearfield (2-6) plenty of opportunities, but Lady Wildcat pitchers Rachel Shady and Whitney Peters were able to keep the Lady Bisons off the scoreboard except for the fifth inning when two free passes and two forceouts produced a run. Melinda Owens scored on Heather Picard’s grounder.
Peters, who worked the final four innings, picked up the win.
Rachel Hoffman was tagged with the loss despite allowing only five hits while striking out nine and walking none.
All three Central Mountain (5-5) runs were unearned.
Shady doubled home Kayla Glossner, who reached base on an error, in the first inning, Moriah Lindsey doubled and scored on a passed ball in the second and two misplays and a passed ball gave the Lady Wildcats their final run in the third.
B.J. Bowman had two hits for the Lady Bisons, who slipped to 2-3 in the Allegheny Division.
They will be back on their home diamond Friday for a Mountain League cross-over game against Bald Eagle Area.
